Mogadishu – The European Union has donated a new military vehicles to the Federal Government of Somalia, aimed at strengthening the operational capacity of the Somali National Army (SNA) in its fight against Al-Shabaab.
MohadishSomalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, officially received the equipment during a ceremony held at the Dhagabadan military training camp in Mogadishu. The event also marked the launch of the camp’s rehabilitation program, part of broader efforts to rebuild Somalia’s defense infrastructure.
A high-level delegation from the European Union headquarters in Brussels attended the ceremony, led by Jonas Jonsson, Director for Africa at the European External Action Service, along with EU Ambassador to Somalia Karin Johansson and the Deputy Commander of the Somali National Army.
Speaking at the event, Minister Fiqi thanked the European Union for its continued support and longstanding partnership with Somalia. He noted that the donation comes at a pivotal time, as Somali forces are actively conducting military operations to defeat Al-Shabaab and stabilize newly liberated regions across the country.
“The EU’s support is timely and vital to our ongoing efforts to eliminate terrorism and restore peace and stability in Somalia,” said Minister Fiqi.
The donation underscores the EU’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s security sector reform and the broader goal of building a professional, capable, and well-equipped national army.
