MOGADISHU, (HAN) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, together with the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Hon. Dahir Mohamed Shire, has warmly welcomed Mohamed Amaleti Abdi, a Somali-Norwegian councilor from Fredrikstad town, Østfold County, Norway, during his official visit to Mogadishu.
The meeting, held at the Prime Minister’s Office, aimed to strengthen the relationship between Somalia diasporas, who continue to play a crucial role in the country’s social, political, and economic development.
Prime Minister Barre praised Councilor Amaleti for his outstanding service and representation of the Somali community in Norway, noting that Somalis abroad have become vital ambassadors for their homeland.
The PM emphasized that their success stories abroad demonstrate the resilience, intelligence, and leadership potential of Somalis everywhere.
“Somalis in the diaspora contribute significantly to Somalia’s image, economy, and development,” said Prime Minister Barre. “Their active involvement in politics and public service abroad reflects the talent and determination of our people.”
Reflecting on his personal connection with the councilor, Minister Dahir Mohamed Shire shared a heartfelt story, revealing that Councilor Mohamed Amaleti was once his student in Beletweyne, the capital of Somalia’s Hiiraan region.
“Congratulations, Councilor,” Minister Shire remarked. “If yesterday I was your teacher and you were my student, today we are both politicians from Beledweyne. It gives me great joy to witness your success and leadership.”
The Minister highlighted the significance of education, mentorship, and community empowerment, stating that seeing a former student rise to public office abroad is a testament to the strength and potential of Somali youth when given opportunities.
During the discussion, the Prime Minister and Councilor Amaleti exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation between Somalia and its global diaspora.
They discussed initiatives to encourage skilled Somalis abroad to contribute to national reconstruction through investment, capacity building, and policy exchange.
Councilor Amaleti expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended by the Somali leadership. He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the bridge between Somalis in Norway and those in Somalia, particularly through programs promoting education, good governance, and youth leadership.
“I am deeply honored to be welcomed by the Prime Minister and Minister Shire,” said Councilor Amaleti. “Somalia’s progress and stability remain close to the hearts of Somalis abroad. We are ready to support national development in every possible way.”
The meeting concluded with mutual expressions of appreciation and a shared commitment to fostering collaboration between Somalia’s government and its diaspora communities worldwide.
