Mogadishu – The European Union Delegation in Somalia has announced that it has donated €10.5 million in budget support to the Somali government. The funds are intended to enhance public service delivery and education, which the Somali government has prioritized in recent times.

Somalia’s Minister of Finance, Hon. Bihi Iman Ige, held a meeting today with a high-level delegation from the European Union. The delegation included the EU Head for East African Affairs, the EU Representative to Somalia, and the Head of Strategic Planning for Crisis Management.

The meeting focused on the progress made in financial reform, modernization of revenue systems, and strengthening the relationship between the Somali government and international financial institutions.

During the meeting, they also discussed the EU’s continued support for Somalia’s financial sector, particularly through budget support – a form of assistance the Minister expressed gratitude for, recognizing the EU’s ongoing commitment to the Somali government.

Following the meeting, the EU office in Somalia officially announced the €10.5 million budget support donation, which is aimed at improving public services and education – areas that have been given special attention by the Somali government in recent years.

The European Union mostly supports the Federal Government of Somalia in economic matters to help strengthen infrastructure and improve the functioning of government institutions.
