BELEDWEYNE, (HAN) – A powerful explosion shook the Buundoweyn neighborhood of Beledweyne town today, sending shockwaves across surrounding areas.
The blast occurred at a local café in the Isbartiibo area, a spot frequently visited by civilians and formerly used by government and Ma’awisley forces.
According to local sources, the explosion killed three people, including one woman, all of whom were civilians present at the scene.
Additionally, four others sustained injuries, also civilians. Authorities have yet to determine the exact type of explosive used, though initial reports suggest it was likely pre-planted, as no security personnel were present at the time.
While attacks of this nature are often attributed to the Al-Shabaab militant group, no organization has yet claimed responsibility for today’s deadly incident. Local security offices in Beledweyne and the Hiiraan regional capital have not issued official statements regarding the casualties or the cause of the blast.
The explosion highlights the persistent security challenges faced by civilians in Hiiraan and underscores the urgent need for enhanced protection measures in towns prone to militant activity.
