LONDON/ANKARA– Turkey and the United Kingdom are expected to finalize a multi-billion dollar deal for Eurofighter Typhoon combat jets during British Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s official visit to Ankara tomorrow, according to diplomatic sources.

The two nations have been in negotiations since 2023, with significant progress made after Germany lifted its previous objections. In July, both sides signed a preliminary agreement for 40 aircraft.

Reports indicate that 20 Royal Air Force (RAF) jets will be temporarily transferred to Turkey, while the remaining 20 will be customized to carry Turkish-made weapons.

Ahead of his visit, Prime Minister Starmer dispatched two Eurofighter jets to Ankara, and President Erdogan postponed a cabinet meeting to personally receive him.
The deal reportedly covers the advanced Tranche 4 model, and Turkey has also signed a separate agreement with Qatar to purchase second-hand aircraft.

The UK has prioritized Turkey’s request and is preparing an additional deal on maintenance and upgrades for planes Turkey acquired from Qatar and Oman.
