LASANOD – Police forces under the Northeastern Administration have arrested a man accused of committing rape in Lasanod town, following an extensive week-long search operation.

In a statement issued by the regional police command, officers in Lasanod confirmed the arrest of Awil Omar Ganey at around 1:30 a.m. during a targeted operation. The suspect had been on the run for several days after allegedly committing a sexual assault in the outskirts of the town.

Police officials said Ganey had been the subject of an intensive manhunt led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Las Anod District.

The arrest was made after a coordinated, intelligence-led effort involving multiple police units.

Authorities stated that the suspect is currently being held at the Las Anod Central Police Station, pending further investigation. He is expected to appear before judicial authorities in the coming days to face charges and due legal process.

The police command urged members of the public to continue cooperating with law enforcement in efforts to combat crime—particularly sexual violence and insecurity. They encouraged residents to promptly report any suspicious activity or individuals suspected of involvement in criminal acts to help ensure community safety and uphold justice.
