Mogadishu-Somalia’s federal government has issued a firm rebuttal to recent allegations made by the opposition group, which claims that the Somali National Army (SNA) has been dismantled and defeated on the battlefield.
During a visit to the elite Gorgor military camp in Mogadishu, Defence Minister Dr. Ahmed Moalim Fiqi addressed hundreds of Somali National Army troops, urging them to remain steadfast in their mission to combat the militant group Al-Shabaab.
Responding directly to the opposition’s claims, Dr. Fiqi dismissed the accusations as “politically motivated fabrications” aimed at discrediting both the military leadership and the federal government.
“The Somali National Army remains well-trained, and fully committed to defending our nation and people,” he declared.
Dr. Fiqi went on to accuse the opposition of obstructing national progress.
“Those spreading these falsehoods are enemies of progress and national rebuilding,” he stated, reaffirming the government’s commitment to strengthening Somalia’s defense sector.
The Defence Minister’s remarks come in the wake of ongoing criticism from opposition figures—particularly the opposition group—who have repeatedly accused the administration of neglecting national security and failing to adequately support the armed forces.
The escalating exchange of words reflects the growing political divide in Somalia, with both the government and opposition appearing increasingly unwilling to engage in constructive dialogue.
