MOGADISHU — Somalia has taken a significant step toward overhauling its state institutions with the first meeting of the newly formed National Integrated Governance Committee, held in Mogadishu on Monday.
The committee, established on 8 October 2025 by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, is tasked with unifying government administrative systems and driving forward the country’s modern state-building agenda.
Monday’s session was chaired by Minister of Communications and Technology Mohamed Somali, who also leads the committee. Senior representatives from a wide range of ministries were in attendance, including Planning and Investment, Finance, Education, Commerce, Health, Labour, Internal Security, and Interior and Federal Affairs, along with officials from the Offices of the President and the Prime Minister.
Discussions centred on harmonising state functions, speeding up the adoption of modern administrative procedures and improving coordination among institutions responsible for governance.
Following deliberations, members agreed to strengthen efforts to unify government systems, develop an integrated framework for state data and service management, and improve transparency and accountability across federal institutions.
Officials described the meeting as an important milestone in Somalia’s continued efforts to build a more efficient and accessible government, reflecting the administration’s broader push for a cohesive and modern state apparatus.
