MOGADISHU — Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamudw delivered a key speech yesterday at the national celebration of Somali Teachers’ Day, held at the Mogadishu Stadium and organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education.

In his address, President Hassan commended Somali teachers for their critical role in advancing education and shaping a generation capable of building the country’s future.

“The most valuable citizens in our country are teachers and soldiers. It is our duty to honor and support teachers because they are the backbone of societal progress,” the President said. He also instructed the Ministry of Education to complete the recruitment of the remaining 10,000 teachers, noting that 6,000 have already been hired and are actively serving in schools across the country.

President Hassan emphasized the government’s commitment to improving teacher quality through enhanced training and professional development, aiming to align Somalia’s education system with international standards. He also encouraged young people to prepare themselves to take on leadership roles in the country today and in the future.

The event was attended by Minister of Education Farah Sheikh Abdulqadir, other government officials, representatives from educational institutions, teachers, and students from several schools in the capital, who participated in programs celebrating Somali Teachers’ Day.

In recognition of his support for education, the President was awarded an honorary medal by education stakeholders, who praised him for his dedication to improving the education sector and for acknowledging the continuous efforts of Somali teachers amid challenging circumstances.
