DOHA — Somalia’s national football team head coach, Yusuf Ali Nur, and team captain, Abdisamad Abdullahi, held a comprehensive press briefing on Tuesday as the Ocean Stars entered their final phase of preparation for tomorrow’s high-stakes encounter against Oman.

The match, which forms part of the ongoing FIFA World Cup and AFC/CAF qualifying campaign, is widely regarded as one of Somalia’s most important fixtures this season. The team has been based in a closed training camp for the past week, undergoing what the coach described as “intensive, structured, and highly focused” training sessions.

Coach Yusuf told reporters that the players have shown remarkable commitment and concentration, noting improvements in several key areas, including physical conditioning and tactical organization.

“Our team is ready,” he said. “We have worked very hard over the last few days, and we understand how significant this match is—not just for qualification ambitions, but for the morale and pride of the Somali nation. The players know the responsibility they carry.”

According to the coach, the technical staff has conducted a detailed assessment of Oman’s recent performances, paying close attention to their strengths in midfield control and fast counterattacks. He said Somalia has adjusted its tactical approach to ensure greater defensive stability while maintaining attacking creativity.

“Oman is a strong and disciplined side,” Coach Yusuf added. “But we are not intimidated. We have prepared a strategy that reflects their style of play, and we believe we can compete effectively.”

Team captain Abdisamad Abdullahi said morale within the squad is exceptionally high, with players fully aware of what is at stake. He described the atmosphere in the camp as “focused, motivated, and united.”

“This is a crucial game for us,” Abdisamad said. “Every player is ready to give 100 percent. We want to make our supporters proud and show the world that Somalia is rising in international football.”

He also called on Somali fans at home and abroad to continue rallying behind the team, noting that messages of encouragement from the diaspora have greatly boosted the players’ confidence.

The Ocean Stars have made noticeable progress in recent years, improving their international ranking and gaining respect across the region. Tomorrow’s match, however, is expected to be a major test of their resilience, discipline, and tactical maturity. A strong performance could significantly enhance Somalia’s standing in the group and increase their chances of advancing to the next stage.

Kickoff is scheduled for tomorrow evening at a neutral venue due to Somalia’s continued security challenges, with thousands of Somali fans expected to follow the match live worldwide.
