Djibouti– The people and government of Djibouti today marked the 47th anniversary of the country’s independence with grand celebrations, commemorating June 27, 1977 — the historic day when Djibouti gained its freedom from French colonial rule.
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, sent a message of congratulations to the President of the brotherly Republic of Djibouti, H.E. Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, as well as to the people and government of Djibouti, on the occasion of their 47th Independence Day.
This week, Somalia is also celebrating key milestones in its own struggle for freedom. June 26, June 27, and July 1 mark historic dates when the brotherly republics of Somalia and Djibouti achieved independence from European colonial powers.
