DOHA — Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has warned that the country is facing a “three-front war” as he addressed a special session of the Doha Forum on Politics and Security. The forum, which brings together senior Somali and international officials, focused on strengthening state-building efforts and consolidating international support for Somalia.

Speaking at the event on Saturday, President Hassan outlined the government’s ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring security, stabilising the country, and reforming state institutions.

He said Somalia and its people are confronting simultaneous threats on three fronts: military, economic, and ideological. “This is a war being waged by international extremist groups that have infiltrated our country,” he said, highlighting the multifaceted nature of the challenges facing the nation.

The President also provided an update on preparations for Somalia’s upcoming direct elections. He stressed the importance of finalising the provisional constitution to ensure a fully legitimate government with a robust legal framework.

Calling on the international community, President Hassan urged coordinated, transparent, and strategic support aligned with the Somali government’s National Plan. He stressed that effective assistance must complement domestic efforts to consolidate peace and stability.

Despite the challenges, he expressed optimism that combined international cooperation and internal reforms could lead Somalia toward lasting security, unity, and sustainable development.
