MOGADISHU — Somalia’s Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation, MP Ali Yusuf Ali-Hoosh, on Wednesday met with 148 Somali nationals recently repatriated from Yemen, praising their safe return and urging them to contribute to the country’s reconstruction efforts.
The group, made up of more than 80 families, arrived in Mogadishu under a government-supported evacuation programme. They were formally received during a briefing and orientation session led by the minister.
Ali-Hoosh said the government remains committed to prioritising the care, resettlement and long-term support of Somalis returning from hardship abroad. He emphasised that returnees will play an important role in strengthening communities and rebuilding the nation.
Ahmed Hussein Elmi, head of the National Refugees and IDPs Agency (NRIA), delivered a detailed overview of the repatriation process, outlining the registration procedures, reception arrangements and coordination of essential services provided upon arrival.
Officials said the NRIA carried out verification and offered initial assistance to ensure each family received the necessary support as they begin the reintegration process.
The Somali government reaffirmed its pledge to safeguard the rights of returnees, facilitate safe and dignified return journeys, and expand access to sustainable livelihood opportunities for those rebuilding their lives in the country.
