ADDIS ABABA — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to arrive in Addis Ababa on Tuesday for an official visit, during which he will hold talks with Ethiopia’s top leadership, according to government and diplomatic sources.

The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between India and Ethiopia, two of the world’s most populous countries, representing Asia and Africa respectively.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to meet senior Ethiopian officials to discuss a broad range of issues, including trade and investment, development cooperation, infrastructure, technology, health, education, and energy. Regional and international matters of mutual interest are also expected to feature in the discussions.

India and Ethiopia share long-standing diplomatic ties, with India being one of Ethiopia’s key development partners. Indian companies operate across several sectors in Ethiopia, including manufacturing, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and infrastructure development. Thousands of Indian nationals are also living and working in the country.

The visit is seen as part of India’s broader effort to expand its engagement with Africa, particularly in the Horn of Africa, as New Delhi seeks to deepen economic cooperation and political partnerships across the continent.

Officials from both countries have yet to release full details of the visit’s agenda, but observers expect the talks to result in new agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at boosting cooperation in key sectors.

The outcome of the meetings is expected to further consolidate diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations amid growing global attention on partnerships between emerging economies.
