MOGADISHU, (HAN) – Officials in Somalia’s Gedo region have confirmed that the Federal Government is preparing to establish a new Jubbaland administration, with Garbaharey designated as its temporary capital.

Abdirashid Janan, recently appointed by the Somali Federal Government as the Head of Security and Stabilization for Gedo region, told the media that the initiative is genuine and part of broader efforts to ensure Gedo’s full integration into the new Jubbaland governance structure.

The development follows recent talks in Kismayo between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe), which concluded without a clear outcome.

In recent weeks, reports have circulated suggesting that the Federal Government aims to form a new Jubbaland administration to bolster its influence in the region.

Analysts say the move could further intensify the ongoing political standoff between Jubbaland and the Federal Government, potentially deepening tensions between the two sides.
