JAlALAQSI – Somali security sources report that warplanes carried out an overnight airstrike on the strategic area of Tardo town, located in the eastern part of Somalia’s central Hiiran region.

The strike is said to have targeted senior commanders from Al-Shabaab’s military wing, who were allegedly planning an imminent attack against the Somali National Army (SNA).

According to local reports, a separate precision strike hit a house sheltering several Al-Shabaab fighters.

However, unconfirmed accounts indicate the group’s self-proclaimed “Wali” (governor) of Hiiraan region was among those killed.

The Somali Federal Government has not yet issued an official statement on the incident, and the exact number and identities of the casualties remain unclear.

Tardo recently fell under Al-Shabaab control after Somali government forces and allied community militia, known as Ma’awisley, withdrew from the area.

The airstrike comes amid ongoing military movements and anti-Al-Shabaab operations in Hiiraan, a region that has been a key battleground in recent offensives.
