Garissa — Two Kenyan soldiers were killed and several others injured in a deadly roadside bomb attack by the militant group Al-Shabaab in northeastern Kenya’s Garissa County.

The explosion occurred along the Ijara–Bodhai road when an improvised explosive device (IED) struck a Probox vehicle carrying the soldiers. The victims have been identified as Mohamed Shabeel Bashir and Abdikadir Mahmoud Salad. They were en route to Bodhai at the time of the attack.

Bodhai Sub-County Administrator, Dubat Mohamed, confirmed the incident and said the IED was planted along a route frequently used by security patrols.

“This is a heartbreaking incident. We believe the attack was a targeted strike against our security forces,” said Dubat.

In response, a large-scale security operation has been launched, involving personnel from the General Service Unit (GSU) and the Special Operations Group (SOG), who are combing suspected hideouts in pursuit of the attackers.

We urge the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activity,” Dubat added.

Ijara Member of Parliament, Hon. Abdi Ali, strongly condemned the attack, describing it as a deliberate attempt to destabilize the region.

“I am deeply saddened and shocked by this brutal act. It is a grim reminder of the persistent threats our communities face,” said Ali.

Authorities suspect Al-Shabaab, the Somalia-based extremist group responsible for numerous cross-border attacks, is behind the bombing. Security has been heightened in the area as investigations continue.
