ANKARA — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has reaffirmed Turkey’s support for the territorial unity and sovereignty of Somalia and Yemen during a phone conversation with United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
According to Anadolu, Erdogan told the UAE leader that Turkey remains firmly committed to preserving the unity and territorial integrity of both countries, amid ongoing regional instability and geopolitical tensions in the Horn of Africa and the Middle East.
“Turkey supports the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia and Yemen,” Erdogan said, adding that Ankara is prepared to take part in international and regional efforts aimed at safeguarding the sovereignty of the two nations.
The call comes as Somalia faces renewed diplomatic and political pressure related to regional alignments, while Yemen continues to struggle with a prolonged conflict that has drawn in regional and international actors.
Turkey has maintained close political, military, and humanitarian ties with Somalia for more than a decade, including security cooperation, infrastructure development, and humanitarian assistance. Ankara has also been involved in diplomatic efforts related to Yemen, advocating for a political solution that respects the country’s territorial integrity.
The phone conversation between Erdogan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed reflects ongoing coordination between Turkey and the UAE on regional issues, following a period of improved relations between the two countries after years of strained ties.
Neither side provided further details on any specific initiatives discussed during the call.
