MOGADISHU — The African Union Special Representative for Somalia and Head of the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), Ambassador El Hadji Ibrahima Diene “Boly”, held a meeting in Mogadishu on Wednesday with Ambassador Aweys Haji Yusuf, the National Security Adviser to the President of Somalia.

The meeting, which took place at the AUSSOM headquarters, focused on strengthening security cooperation between the African Union and the Somali government.

According to a statement from AUSSOM, the two officials discussed ways to enhance joint military operations against Al-Shabaab, advance stabilization efforts, and secure funding for the AU mission’s ongoing activities. They also reviewed coordination mechanisms for the planned deployment of Egyptian troops who are expected to join AUSSOM in support of Somalia’s security transition.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Somalia’s peace and security agenda and to ensuring close collaboration as the AU gradually transfers security responsibilities to Somali forces.

“The African Union remains a steadfast partner in Somalia’s journey toward lasting peace and stability,” Ambassador Boly said after the meeting.
