MOGADISHU – Somalia’s Federal Minister of Internal Security, Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartaag), on Saturday hosted the African Union Special Representative for Somalia, Ambassador El Haji Ibrahima Diene, at the ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu.
The AU envoy, accompanied by senior officials from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), held high-level discussions with Minister Fartaag focusing on Somalia’s political developments, national security priorities, and the ongoing fight against extremist groups.
During the meeting, Ambassador Diene commended the Federal Government of Somalia for its intensified military operations aimed at liberating areas under militant control.
He praised recent successful offensives that have not only weakened the extremist presence but also restored stability and civilian life in newly secured regions.
The discussions underscored the AU’s continued support for Somalia in its counter-terrorism campaign and political stabilization efforts.
Both sides reaffirmed the importance of close cooperation between Somalia and the African Union in consolidating security gains and preparing for a gradual transfer of security responsibilities from AUSSOM to Somali forces.
