MOGADISHU – Officials in Banaadir region convened a high-level security meeting on Monday to review and strengthen measures aimed at ensuring safety and stability in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, and the surrounding districts.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), Governor of Banaadir and Mayor of Mogadishu. He was joined by key regional security and administrative officials, including Deputy Governor for Security and Political Affairs, Mohamed Ahmed Dirir (Yabooh); Chief of Police for Banaadir, Brigadier General Mahdi Omar Muumin; and commanders of military brigades assigned to support the police, commonly known as the Bolisiya Militaaro.
During the session, participants discussed comprehensive strategies to enhance the security of the capital and the broader Banaadir region. The agenda included:
• Accelerating the implementation of security plans across Mogadishu and its districts.
• Strengthening coordination between security agencies and the regional administration.
• Preventing criminal activities and creating a safe environment that allows effective public service delivery.
• Focusing on strategic districts of the capital where organized criminal groups operate.
The meeting emphasized the importance of information sharing and inter-agency cooperation, highlighting that coordinated operations are crucial to combating security threats. Officials also stressed the need to increase proactive measures to prevent crime and maintain public order.
Governor Dr. Muungaab reiterated that peace and stability in Mogadishu are fundamental to the country’s overall development. He affirmed the administration’s commitment to working closely with all security institutions to ensure that residents live in safety, and that law enforcement operates with transparency and respect for the rule of law.
The session concluded with a consensus to continue proactive measures aimed at safeguarding civilians, maintaining law and order, and defending the city and surrounding districts against threats, while ensuring that security operations remain within the framework of the law.
Officials described the meeting as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security in Somalia’s capital, which has faced challenges from organized crime and sporadic insurgent activity in recent years.
