MOGADISHU, (HAN) — A deadly attack erupted Saturday at the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) headquarters in Godka Jilicow, officials and residents reported.

Witnesses said the assault began with a powerful explosion, followed by heavy gunfire and the detonation of hand grenades. The sound of multiple blasts and continuous shooting could be heard across the surrounding area.

Security forces quickly responded, engaging the attackers and securing the perimeter of the facility. Details about casualties and the exact number of assailants remain unclear as authorities continue to assess the situation.

Residents in nearby neighborhoods were urged to stay indoors and avoid the area while security personnel conducted clearance operations to ensure no additional explosives or threats remained.

“The situation is ongoing, and our teams are working to neutralize any remaining attackers. We urge civilians to remain calm and report any suspicious activity,” a NISA official told HAN on condition of anonymity.

The attack marks the latest in a series of assaults on government and security installations, highlighting continued threats from extremist groups operating in southern Somalia.
