LAS ANOD — China has voiced strong support for the establishment and implementation of Somalia’s newly formed Northeast State administration, signaling Beijing’s endorsement of ongoing federalization efforts in the Horn of Africa nation.

In a statement released by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mogadishu, Chinese authorities congratulated Somalia’s federal leadership and the Somali people following the inauguration of the new regional administration’s president, Abduqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali. The swearing-in ceremony was held in Las Anod, a city that has recently gained political prominence amid shifting administrative arrangements in northern Somalia.

The Chinese Embassy said it extended “warm congratulations” to Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, the federal government, and the Somali public on what it described as the successful inauguration of the Northeast State leadership.

According to the statement, Beijing fully supports Somalia’s efforts to strengthen its federal system, establish inclusive regional administrations, and reinforce national unity, stability, and long-term development. China emphasized that the formation of the Northeast State aligns with Somalia’s broader state-building agenda and the constitutional framework that allows for the creation of federal member states.

China’s endorsement comes at a sensitive political moment for Somalia, as the country continues to navigate complex federal dynamics while pursuing reforms aimed at consolidating governance, improving security, and advancing reconciliation after decades of conflict.
