Qoryooley, (HAN) – Heavy clashes have broken out in the southern Somali town of Qoryooley, where fighting between members of the Jiido and Garre clans has left several people dead and others wounded.

Local reports indicate that armed men from the Garre community launched an attack on Jiido fighters, sparking fierce gunfire and violent confrontations in different parts of the town.

Preliminary information suggests at least five Garre fighters and two Jiido fighters have been killed, while several others have sustained injuries. The exact number of casualties remains unclear due to the ongoing volatility on the ground.

Residents describe a tense and fearful atmosphere, with families fleeing their homes to escape the violence. Community elders and local sources say this is not the first time militias from these clans have fought in Qoryooley. Disputes over local administration power-sharing and control of resources have fueled repeated outbreaks of bloodshed.

Over the years, multiple clashes have erupted in Qoryooley, yet no lasting solution or meaningful peace agreement has been reached. The recurring violence has eroded trust between the two communities, leaving the town vulnerable to renewed hostilities at any moment.

So far, authorities have not intervened effectively to halt the fighting. Aid groups warn that the situation could escalate further, potentially displacing more civilians and deepening the humanitarian crisis in the region.
