Former U.S. President Bill Clinton has openly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for initiating military actions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the Ukrainian news outlet Strana, Clinton accused Netanyahu of using the war as a tool to cling to power.

“Netanyahu has long wanted to go to war with Iran because that way he can remain in power indefinitely.

He’s been in office for most of the past 20 years. But I think we need to de-escalate this situation, and I hope President Trump will do that,” Clinton said.

The former president emphasized the importance of diplomacy and warned the current U.S. administration against being dragged into a conflict with Iran.
“We must reassure our friends in the Middle East that we will stand with them and protect them. But entering undeclared wars—where the victims are mostly innocent civilians who have no part in the conflict and simply want to live normal lives—is not the solution,” Clinton concluded.

Earlier, EADaily reported that during recent talks in Geneva between EU representatives and Iran, Tehran refused direct dialogue with the United States as long as Israel continues bombing Iranian territory.
