Beledweyne – Ali Jeyte Osman, the Federal Government of Somalia’s Presidential Office Representative for Community Defense Forces known as the “Macawiisley,” delivered an emotional statement during a welcoming ceremony in Jigjiga, the capital of the Somali Regional State in Ethiopia. He explained that his visit was not a courtesy call, but rather a mission driven by the urgent need to seek support for the people of Hiiraan, who he said are “bleeding” from years of conflict.
Commander Ali Jeyte, who arrived in Jigjiga last week, emphasized that his delegation did not come for a routine visit but rather left behind people in Hiiraan suffering in a dire situation. He stated their aim is to secure the assistance those communities urgently need.
“This is not a visit—we left behind people who are bleeding, who have been in crisis for almost four years. They are civilians, all from one community. Truly, they have made immense sacrifices. They’ve worked tirelessly—and yes, one can call it a sacrifice. They are our brothers, and you know them,” said Ali Jeyte Osman.
The Macawiisley leader also praised the people of Hiiraan for their crucial role in combating the terrorist group Al-Shabaab, stressing that now they are in dire need of fraternal support from fellow Somalis and allies.
“I urge you to support those who are suffering, to lend a helping hand as you would to your own. And for those of you living here, I encourage you to work for peace and cooperate with your government,” he added.
Ali Jeyte expressed his gratitude to the Somali Regional State and the Ethiopian government for their warm reception and their willingness to assist in the fight against Al-Shabaab. He noted that the region had previously supported their efforts and is now prepared to offer further assistance to the people of Hiiraan.
On July 9, the Somali Regional State of Ethiopia delivered military supplies to the governor of Hiiraan, who was accompanied by local elders. The aid—consisting of arms and logistical support—was designated for Macawiisley forces engaged in the fight against Al-Shabaab militants alongside the Hawadle clan.
Finally, the Somali public is closely watching the outcome of Ali Jeyte’s recent engagements in the Somali Regional State, as his efforts over the past two weeks may shape the future of the anti-Al-Shabaab struggle and regional cooperation.
