Garowe — The President of semi-autonomous Somali state of Puntland, Said Abdullahi Deni, has announced that he will soon travel to the frontlines of the ongoing military operations in the Cal-Miskaad mountains as part of efforts to eliminate terrorist threats in the region.

President Deni made the announcement while attending an event recognizing the contributions of Puntland women in the fight against ISIS (Daesh). During his remarks, he provided an update on “Operation Hillaac,” the ongoing offensive against ISIS militants in the mountains of Bari region.

“The Hillaac operation is in its final stages. We are in the closing days and locations of this mission, and it’s time to ensure we defeat the enemy,” President Deni said. “The next phase will be Operation Onkod, which aims to liberate areas of the Cal-Madow mountains from Al-Shabaab.”

He emphasized that the operations are being carried out through joint public and government efforts, highlighting the importance of local support in logistics, medical care, and humanitarian aid.

“I call on the women of Puntland to prepare for this new phase and to double their efforts—supporting with food, clothing, medicine, and care for the wounded and the families of the fallen,” he stated. “I hope to visit the frontlines in the coming days to personally boost the morale of our forces. Until we completely clear our territories of the enemy, operations will continue. As for those hiding in urban areas, we have separate plans in place.”

The statement underscores Puntland’s intensified efforts to combat militant groups entrenched in the rugged terrain of northeastern Somalia.
