MOGADISHU – The Somali National Army (SNA) forces operating in Gedo region successfully repelled an early morning assault on their positions near the outskirts of Beled-Hawo district on Monday.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Defence, the attack was carried out by militia fighters led by Mahmoud Sayid Adan. The SNA engaged the attackers in fierce fighting, eventually forcing them to retreat. Ten of the assailants were captured, and the army seized control of locations where the attack had been planned and launched.

During the confrontation, two SNA soldiers were killed — Lieutenant Mohamed Hassan Guutaale and Private Ali Mohamed Gooni — while three others sustained injuries. The wounded are currently receiving treatment in medical facilities.

The Ministry reported that the situation in the area has since returned to normal. Security operations are ongoing to ensure stability and protect civilians in the region.

In its press release, the Ministry also urged local residents to cooperate with the security forces to help prevent any acts that threaten peace, unity, and national security.
