MOGADISHU, (HAN) — The East African Community Conference (EACON 2025) officially opened today in Mogadishu, marking a historic moment for Somalia as it hosts the high-level regional summit for the first time. The two-day event, running from October 7–8, was inaugurated by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
The conference has brought together heads of state and government from the East African Community (EAC), leading business figures, scholars, international company executives, and representatives from the global community.
According to the Somali government officials, the summit offers a crucial opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation among East African nations. It is expected to provide a platform for leaders and stakeholders to share strategic visions on economic development and investment across the region.
This year’s theme focuses on “Enhancing Industrial Cooperation for Economic and Social Transformation within the East African Community.” The goal is to deepen regional integration, promote sustainable economic growth, and support the joint development agenda of EAC member states.
The conference also aims to boost trade and investment ties across the region by creating new opportunities for Somali entrepreneurs to expand their markets, while encouraging East African investors to explore business prospects in Somalia.
EACON 2025 is anticipated to be a landmark event that reinforces Somalia’s growing role in regional economic and political cooperation within the East African Community.
