NEW YORK, (HAN) – The foreign ministers of Egypt and Eritrea held a meeting in the United States today, where they praised the progress of the trilateral cooperation framework involving Egypt, Eritrea, and Somalia.

During the talks, Egypt’s Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of continuing regular consultations among the three countries to strengthen collaboration in the Horn of Africa and ensure security in the Red Sea region.
The meeting also underscored the urgent need to support Somalia in its fight against terrorism and to help the country achieve full control over its borders and territory.
“The importance of supporting Somalia in the fight against terrorism and ensuring its ability to fully reclaim and manage its territory was stressed,” the joint statement noted.
The trilateral mechanism between Somalia, Eritrea, and Egypt had not convened since Somalia entered the Ankara Agreement, brokered between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.
