MOGADISHU – A delegation from the Egyptian government, which has been visiting Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, in recent days, departed the city today after conducting assessments of potential deployment sites for Egyptian forces set to be stationed in Somalia.

During their visit, the delegation toured several key locations, including Jowhar, Mahaday, Balcad, Burane, and Balli-Doogle, which are situated in Somalia’s Lower and Middle Shabelle regions. The purpose of these visits was to evaluate strategic sites for the deployment and accommodation of Egyptian peacekeeping troops.

Egypt has expressed interest in joining the peacekeeping efforts currently underway in Somalia, a move that has previously drawn concern from the Ethiopian government. Ethiopia already has troops stationed in several regions of Somalia and has reportedly been cautious about new foreign military deployments in the country.

The visit marks a step forward in Egypt’s engagement in Somali security matters, signaling its intent to contribute to regional stability and international peacekeeping operations in the Horn of Africa.
