RIYADH — Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday for talks with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, as the two regional allies seek to coordinate efforts to strengthen security in the Red Sea.

Officials said discussions between Egypt and Saudi Arabia are expected to focus on protecting vital shipping lanes and addressing growing security concerns affecting maritime trade routes that connect the Middle East, Africa and Europe.

The Red Sea is one of the world’s most important waterways for global commerce, carrying large volumes of oil, energy supplies and commercial goods. In recent months, tensions and security threats in the region have increased concerns among governments and international shipping companies.

During the visit, the leaders are also expected to discuss broader regional issues, including defense cooperation, economic partnerships and joint initiatives aimed at promoting stability in the Middle East and surrounding regions.

Analysts say the meeting underscores the strategic partnership between Egypt and Saudi Arabia and highlights their shared interest in safeguarding maritime routes and maintaining stability in the Red Sea corridor.
