ASMARA – Eritrea’s Minister of Information has launched a blistering attack on Ethiopia’s ruling Prosperity Party (PP), accusing it of orchestrating a “deceptive campaign” designed to mislead the Ethiopian people and the international community, even as the country struggles with deepening internal conflicts and economic collapse.

In a strongly worded statement released this week, the minister condemned Ethiopia’s renewed rhetoric about securing access to the sea, branding the campaign as “dangerous, unlawful, and a potential trigger for renewed conflict in the region.”
The remarks highlight rising tensions in the Horn of Africa, where maritime access and territorial disputes remain among the most sensitive and destabilizing issues.
The Eritrean minister also accused Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s administration of neglecting urgent domestic problems, alleging that Addis Ababa is “preoccupied with meaningless meetings and hollow ceremonies” while Ethiopia grapples with political instability, ethnic violence, and economic decline.
Regional analysts suggest the statement signals a new phase of strain in relations between Asmara and Addis Ababa. The two countries share a history of bitter enmity, punctuated by brief periods of uneasy cooperation. Experts warn that Ethiopia’s revived calls for sea access risk inflaming diplomatic disputes and destabilizing an already fragile Horn of Africa.
