Addis Ababa — The 11th Joint Defense Committee meeting between Ethiopia and Djibouti opened today at the Skylight Hotel in Addis Abeba, aiming to review existing security agreements and chart strategic directions for deepening bilateral military cooperation.

The high-level gathering brings together senior military officials from both nations, including Major General Teshome Gemechu, Director General of Foreign Relations and Military Cooperation at Ethiopia’s Ministry of Defense, and Major General Abdurahman Abdi, Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Djiboutian Armed Forces. Ethiopia’s Military Attaché to Djibouti, Major General Tesfaye Woldemariam, is also in attendance.

According to the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF), the meeting is focused on assessing the implementation of joint peace and security operations agreed upon during the committee’s 10th session. The two sides are now working to define “strategic directions to enhance bilateral military cooperation.”

Welcoming the Djiboutian delegation, Maj. Gen. Teshome underscored the deep-rooted relationship between the two countries, describing Ethiopia as a “second home” for the visiting officials and highlighting shared “historical, cultural, and economic ties.”

Maj. Gen. Abdurahman Abdi expressed gratitude for Ethiopia’s hospitality and reaffirmed Djibouti’s commitment to strengthening the defense partnership.

The Joint Defense Committee, which meets regularly, plays a critical role in advancing military collaboration and regional stability in the Horn of Africa, according to ENDF sources.
