Doolow – Intense fighting broke out overnight in the town of Doolow, located in Somalia’s Gedo region, after Ethiopian troops, accompanied by forces from the Jubbaland administration, launched an attack on a Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) base.

Eyewitnesses reported that the government forces stationed at the base were targeted in a coordinated assault that lasted for several hours, sparking fierce clashes between the opposing sides.

Sources indicate that the Jubbaland and Ethiopian forces had demanded the Somali government troops at the base to surrender and hand over their weapons. The government-aligned troops reportedly refused, prompting a heavy exchange of gunfire.

The number of casualties from the overnight battle remains unknown.

The targeted base is said to have housed forces loyal to former Jubbaland Security Minister Abdirashid Janan, who was recently appointed by the Federal Government as the NISA commander for the Gedo region. The base also reportedly contained military vehicles previously handed over to the Somali government by Janan.

This incident marks an escalation in tensions in the region, highlighting the ongoing divisions between Jubbaland-aligned forces and those loyal to the federal government.
