Mogadishu — Five Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel have been confirmed dead, and three others were injured, after a Ugandan military aircraft crashed inside the perimeter of Aden Adde International Airport in Mogadishu on Wednesday morning.
According to a statement from the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), search and rescue operations are ongoing as efforts continue to account for all crew members.
The aircraft was en route from Baledogle military base in the Middle Shabelle region when it crash-landed during its final approach to the airport. The impact triggered a fire, with plumes of smoke visible across parts of the city.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash as recovery and emergency operations remain underway.
