MOGADISHU – Somalia’s former Prime Minister, Mohamed Hussein Rooble, has launched a scathing attack on President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, accusing him of seeking to consolidate power through undemocratic means.

Speaking at a press conference in Mogadishu yesterday, Rooble alleged that President Hassan made remarks suggesting he could hold on to power in the same manner as former President Mohamed Abdullahi “Farmaajo.”
“President Hassan said that if Farmaajo could cling to power by force, then I, being from Mogadishu, can hold onto power as well,” Rooble told journalists.
The statement comes amid growing political tensions in Somalia, with disputes intensifying over the country’s electoral process and the ongoing constitutional review.
Critics have accused President Hassan of attempting to undermine democratic institutions and extend his influence beyond what the law permits.
Villa Somalia, the presidential palace, has not yet issued a response to Rooble’s accusations.
Political analysts warn that the escalating feud between opposition leaders and the presidency could further destabilize Somalia’s fragile political landscape, especially as debates over the constitution and future elections continue to divide the nation’s leadership.
