Former Somali Foreign Minister Ahmed Isse Awad has strongly criticized recent comments by Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, accusing him of undermining the integrity and neutrality expected of a government minister.

Awad’s remarks came in response to Fiqi’s verbal attack on opposition leaders, including Puntland’s President Said Abdullahi Deni. He argued that such statements reflect poorly on the federal government and risk deepening Somalia’s already fragile political divides.

“Minister Fiqi serves the entire Somali nation. He does not have the mandate to engage in personal disputes with opposition figures,” Awad said. “This kind of rhetoric weakens the government’s credibility and fuels unnecessary conflict.”

The former diplomat also singled out several prominent political figures, including former intelligence chief Abdullahi Sanbaloolshe, Somaliland politician Faysal Ali Warabe, and former Interior Minister Abdi Farah Juxa, accusing them of lacking political maturity and responsibility.

“Fiqi, Sanbaloolshe, Faysal Ali Warabe, and Juxa are, in my view, irresponsible figures who do not understand the weight of their words,” Awad said.

His comments come at a time of escalating tensions between Somalia’s federal government and opposition leaders, with political disputes increasingly spilling into the media and social platforms, further straining efforts toward national unity and reconciliation.
