Lower Shabelle – The Chief of the Somali National Army (SNA), Major General Odowaa Yusuf Raage, paid a visit to the AUSSOM forces stationed in the recently liberated areas of Sabiid and Caanoole in Lower Shabelle region. These strategic towns were recently retaken from the militant group Al-Shabaab during the ongoing “Silent Storm” military operation.

During the visit, General Odowaa praised the efforts of the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) forces for their critical role in the successful operation, which led to the expulsion of Al-Shabaab militants from the two towns.
He also highlighted the strong cooperation between AUSSOM–particularly the Ugandan People’s Defence Forces (UPDF)–and the Somali National Army, along with other partners. General Odowaa pledged continued support to strengthen joint operations aimed at liberating areas still under militant control.
In his remarks, General Odowaa thanked Uganda for its enduring contribution to peace and stability in Somalia.
The AUSSOM Force Commander, Lieutenant General Sam Kavuma, reaffirmed the importance of joint efforts and the protection of civilians in all operations. He was joined on the tour by First Division Commander Brigadier Joseph Musoke Ssemwanga, “Silent Storm” Operation Commander Colonel Kosia Kuteesa, Military Information Officer Colonel Jean Rukira, and several senior officers from the Somali National Army.
The delegation reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing military efforts in Somalia’s First Division zone, underscoring continued resolve to defeat Al-Shabaab and secure long-term stability in the region.
