Accra – The government of Ghana has confirmed the tragic deaths of two senior ministers following a fatal helicopter crash that occurred within the country’s borders.

The victims include Defence Minister Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, both prominent figures in the current administration. The Ghana Armed Forces reported that the military helicopter, which was transporting several high-ranking officials, departed from the capital, Accra, on Wednesday morning. It was en route to Obuasi, a town located northwest of the capital, when it suddenly disappeared from radar.

Images from the crash site show the aircraft wreckage engulfed in flames within a forested area. Local residents can be seen surrounding the scene, attempting to assist emergency teams with rescue efforts.

Authorities have not yet determined the exact cause of the crash. However, the Ghana Armed Forces have confirmed that a formal investigation is now underway.

As of now, the following individuals have been confirmed dead in the incident:
• Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence
• Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment
• Deputy Chairperson of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)
• Senior Advisor from the National Security Service
• Three crew members of the military helicopter

The crash has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s political landscape, with many expressing grief and concern over the nation’s security and stability. The government is expected to issue a full public statement once preliminary findings from the investigation are made available.

This tragic event marks one of the deadliest aviation incidents involving Ghanaian government officials in recent years.
