Hargeisa – Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots around 6:30 PM local time. Panic quickly spread through the crowded marketplace as vendors and pedestrians fled the scene. According to preliminary information, the gunman used a pistol and targeted two individuals in close range before fleeing on foot.

One victim died at the scene from gunshot wounds, while the second was rushed to Hargeisa General Hospital in critical condition. His identity and current medical status have not yet been publicly disclosed.

Somaliland police responded immediately, with several units arriving at the scene to secure the area and launch an initial investigation. Officers cordoned off the crime scene and began questioning witnesses and collecting evidence.

“We have taken full control of the situation,” said a police spokesperson. “An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the shooting and identify those responsible.”

As of now, the motive for the shooting remains unclear. Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities, including personal disputes or links to organized crime. No suspects have been apprehended yet, but police have stated that efforts are ongoing to track down the perpetrator.

The incident has sparked fear and concern among local residents and business owners, many of whom are calling for increased security in the area. The Lower Market is a key economic zone in Hargeisa and is usually bustling with activity, particularly in the evenings.

“This kind of violence is alarming,” said a shop owner who witnessed the aftermath. “We need more police patrols to prevent these attacks.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation. More details are expected to be released in the coming hours.
