Lasanod – (Horn Africa News) – A significant political conference is set to commence in the coming days in Lasanod, a strategic town in northern Somalia. The high-level gathering will bring together traditional elders from the SSC-Khatumo regions and senior representatives of the Federal Government of Somalia, as efforts intensify to determine the future political status of the territory.

According to reliable sources, the conference will focus on establishing a formal local administration for the SSC-Khatumo areas under the framework of the Federal Government. This move is part of broader preparations to pave the way for elections and strengthen federal governance in the region, which has witnessed prolonged instability.
Delegations from Mogadishu are already making their way to Lasanod, including top officials such as the Minister of Commerce.
The meeting is expected to feature extensive discussions on key issues, including governance structures, security arrangements, power-sharing, and the region’s representation within federal institutions.
The conference comes at a time of heightened tensions in parts of northern Somalia, particularly in the Sanaag region. Clashes over territorial control continue to spark friction between Somaliland and Puntland forces. In response to the rising instability, federal government sources have confirmed the deployment of federal troops to strategic locations in Sanaag as part of efforts to stabilize the situation.
Observers say the Lasanod conference marks a crucial turning point for the SSC-Khatumo territories, which have been at the center of calls for greater self-rule and protection under the federal system. The outcome of the talks is expected to have a lasting impact on the political landscape of the region, with hopes that it will lead to greater peace, stability, and inclusion in Somalia’s state-building process.
