Lasanod– The town of Lasanod is set to host the highly anticipated election for the leadership of Puntland’s (Northeastern Somalia) Parliament today, following the official closure of candidate registration last night.

The Parliamentary Election Committee has released the list of candidates who fulfilled all constitutional requirements for the top parliamentary positions:
Speaker of Parliament:
- Dr. Adan Abdullahi Aw-Hassan (#83)
- Abdiqafar Mahmud Mohamed (#76)
First Deputy Speaker:
3. Ahmed Mohamed Ahmed (#17)
4. Amran Ahmed Hassan (#11)
Second Deputy Speaker:
5. Abdirisak Jama Warsame (#49)
The election is attracting significant attention as it comes ahead of the broader presidential race in Puntland, which is also scheduled to take place soon in Lasanod.
Political analysts note that the outcome of the parliamentary leadership contest could strongly influence the trajectory of the upcoming presidential election.
Members of parliament are expected to cast their votes today, with the contest for Speaker considered the most competitive, featuring two prominent candidates from the Sool region.
