New Delhi — India’s Ministry of External Affairs has clarified the country’s position regarding Somalia, particularly in response to recent speculation about potential recognition of Somaliland in the northwestern region of Somalia.
In a statement to the press, an Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson emphasized that India fully respects international law and Somalia’s territorial sovereignty.
The spokesperson also highlighted that while India maintains a strong partnership with Israel, it does not support actions by the Israeli government that contravene international norms, including unilateral recognition of disputed territories.
“This is a clear message of support to Somalia’s sovereignty,” the spokesperson said, noting India’s longstanding diplomatic ties with Somalia and commitment to regional stability.
Analysts say this reaffirmation comes amid growing international discussions over Somaliland’s status and ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Horn of Africa.
