MOGADISHU – A high-level delegation from the Iraqi Ministry of Interior arrived in Mogadishu on Tuesday for an official visit aimed at strengthening security cooperation between Somalia and Iraq.
According to Somali government sources, the visit follows the recent trip made by Somalia’s Police Commissioner to Baghdad, where he held discussions with Iraqi security officials on areas of mutual interest, including counterterrorism, police training, and intelligence sharing.
The Iraqi delegation is expected to hold meetings with officials from Somalia’s Ministry of Internal Security, the Somali Police Force, and other law enforcement agencies. Discussions will focus on enhancing collaboration in capacity building, exchange of expertise, and strategies to combat transnational threats such as terrorism and organized crime.
Security analysts say the visit marks a positive step toward diversifying Somalia’s international security partnerships and learning from countries with experience in countering extremist groups.
The delegation’s arrival underscores the growing diplomatic and security ties between Somalia and Iraq, two nations that have faced similar challenges in combating terrorism and rebuilding state institutions.
