The Jubbaland administration has expressed its willingness to resolve the escalating tensions in Beled-Hawo, Gedo region, through dialogue. The statement comes just hours after fresh clashes erupted on the outskirts of the town, particularly in Tuulo Aamin.
Speaking at a press briefing, Jubbaland’s First Vice President, Mohamud Sayid Adan, condemned the recent fighting and called for peaceful negotiations with regional leaders from the area who are part of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS).
Mr. Sayid also said that the combatants on both sides are “all Somali sons” and underscored the importance of making every possible effort to end the standoff without further bloodshed.
However, Adan accused the federal government of violating the law and undermining the constitutional rights of Somalia’s federal member states. He also stated that Jubbaland intends to take its complaints to the international community.
The latest fighting in Tulo-Amin resulted in heavy casualties, with several Jubbaland military officers killed, including senior commanders. Others were wounded and are currently receiving treatment in Mandera town hospitals, across the border in Kenya.
The situation in Beled-Hawo remains tense as both sides maintain a military presence in the area, while mediation efforts are expected to intensify in the coming days.
