The Government of Kenya has firmly denied reports claiming that Jubbaland forces have crossed into Mandera County. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen stated that there is no evidence to support allegations of foreign troops entering Kenya, though security investigations are underway.

Murkomen explained that most of those crossing the border are Somali civilians fleeing conflict, stressing that the Kenyan government remains committed to protecting its borders and ensuring the safety of its citizens. He further cautioned against politicizing the matter, describing it as an issue of national security.

Local leaders in Mandera, including Senator Ali Roba, have raised concerns over what they described as the presence of Jubbaland forces in the county. They warned that the situation has triggered security risks, leading to the closure of schools and businesses, and spreading fear among residents.

Mandera Governor Mohamed Adan Khalif also accused Jubbaland of converting a school into a military base, which has displaced many students and families.

Former Chief Justice of Kenya, David Maraga, also called the alleged incursion a threat to Kenya’s sovereignty and urged Parliament to demand a formal report from the government on the situation.

Kenya has pledged to continue investigations in collaboration with the Federal Government of Somalia to establish the facts and jointly safeguard border security.
