Nairobi – Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Bare Duale, on Saturday, June 28, 2025, reaffirmed that Kenya fully recognizes the sovereignty and unity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Speaking at the celebration of Somalia’s 65th Independence Anniversary in Nairobi — an event hosted by Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jibril Abdulle — Duale emphasized Kenya’s steadfast support for Somalia and its commitment to safeguarding Somalia’s independence.

“Kenya commends Somalia’s efforts toward peace and regional stability, particularly the transition plan from ATMIS to AUSSOM. We fully recognize the Federal Republic of Somalia and support all initiatives aimed at strengthening regional peace through diplomacy and cooperation,” said Duale.

He also underlined Nairobi’s readiness to deepen ties between the two East African neighbors, highlighting the mutually beneficial partnership between Kenya and Somalia.

“As Somalia celebrates this historic milestone, I expressed Kenya’s readiness to collaborate on advancing the blue economy, strengthening people-to-people ties, and working together to promote peace, combat climate change, and achieve sustainable development — both regionally and globally,” Duale added.

Duale attended the event as the representative of President William Ruto, accompanied by senior Kenyan officials including Cabinet Secretary for Gender Hanna Cheptumo, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Korir Sing’oei, Principal Secretary for Culture Ummi Bashir, among others.

Kenya’s reaffirmation of support for Somalia comes just a month after Somaliland opened a diplomatic office in Nairobi — a move that Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly rejected days later.
