RIYADH,(HAN) – Somalia’s Minister of Finance, Bihi Iman Ige Iman, led a high-level delegation to Riyadh where they held fruitful talks with Saudi officials aimed at strengthening economic cooperation between the two nations.

The Somali delegation met with Abdulmuhsen Bin Sa’ad Alkhalaf, Deputy Minister of Finance of Saudi Arabia, and senior officials at the Ministry’s headquarters in Riyadh.

The discussions focused on expanding bilateral ties in key economic sectors including infrastructure, fisheries, livestock, agriculture, and energy.

Minister Ige presented Somalia’s development priorities, emphasizing the government’s commitment to advancing investment opportunities and rebuilding critical sectors of the economy. He underlined the importance of Saudi partnership in financing major development projects and highlighted the potential for collaboration in maritime resources and renewable energy.

Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue at the technical level, with the aim of transforming the discussions into a formal bilateral investment treaty that would enhance long-term cooperation.

The Somali delegation included the Governor of the Reconstruction and Development Bank and the Director of Mogadishu Port. They were warmly received by Somalia’s diplomatic mission in Riyadh, led by Acting Ambassador Abdiasis Ibrahim Hassan.

The visit comes as President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is expected to travel to Kismayo in the coming days in a bid to ease tensions and foster political reconciliation, signaling a dual track of economic diplomacy abroad and peacemaking efforts at home.
