Mogadishu:The Governor of the Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab), met with Mr. Mads Oyen, the Head of Operations for the UNICEF Office in Somalia.

This high-level meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration on critical health initiatives in the region.

The discussions centered on accelerating access to general healthcare services across Banadir, with particular emphasis on improving child nutrition, expanding immunization storage facilities, and upgrading health infrastructure in the region’s districts.

Both parties explored ways to ensure more effective delivery of essential health services to vulnerable communities, especially mothers and children.

Mayor Muungaab commended UNICEF’s ongoing support for maternal and child health and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with international partners to achieve inclusive and sustainable health outcomes. He underlined the need for joint efforts to ensure that healthcare becomes accessible and equitable for all residents of Mogadishu and the wider Banadir region.

The meeting marks a continued commitment between local authorities and UNICEF to advance public health, enhance resilience, and build a healthier future for Somalia’s urban population.
